Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & travel from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest
After a hefty breakfast, you will meet the driver guide for a briefing about this special 4 Days Rwanda chimp and gorilla trekking tour. Start your Rwanda tour with the Kigali city tour and this takes you to historical sites like Gisozi memorial center, craft centers and local markets. After you have explored iconic sites within Kigali, set off for Nyungwe Forest National Park, Southwestern Rwanda 6-7 hours’ drive. En-route, make a stop visit to the King’s Palace, and other cultural/historical centers within Butare then proceed to the park for relaxation.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking & forest canopy walk
Enjoy a delicious breakfast and after, get briefed at Uwinka Reception before the Nyungwe Park ranger guide leads you through the forest for a chimpanzee tracking experience. Expect to spend at least 2-4 hours exploring the forest and once you come across chimpanzee communities, you will be allowed to stay for a maximum of one hour to enjoy a face-to-face encounter with chimpanzees as well as take pictures.
Return after you have spent one hour with chimpanzees and have a relaxed lunch. In the afternoon, embark on the forest canopy walk along the suspended walkway for 2 hours. Along the walkway, expect to see lots of primates, birds and enjoy the remarkable forest canopy.
Day 3: Depart Nyungwe for Volcanoes NP
Have a leisurely breakfast and after, picked up by our experienced driver guide ready to connect to Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy the scenic countryside as you drive to Ruhengeri and, most especially, the beautiful Lake Kivu view. At Volcanoes NP, you will check in at the safari lodge for evening relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking & return to Kigali city
Get up early and you will be served a tasty cup of tea/coffee, after, all guests must report at Kinigi park offices for a briefing about gorilla trekking guidelines. After the briefing, gorilla groups will be allocated to all sub-groups of 8 guests each to visit a single gorilla family. The normal gorilla trek starts from Kinigi taking 2-6 hours and includes one hour of a close encounter and photography.
Start walking back to the lodge after you have had one hour with a family of gorillas assigned to you. Relax at the lodge, have lunch, and later, check out then board your 4×4 safari vehicle and set off for Kigali.
